Lesson 48: Don’t Whine, Don’t Complain, And Don’t Make Excuses

When John Wooden was a child he learned a very important lesson from his father: “Don’t whine, complain, or make excuses” because none of these things solve any problems.

When John was a child all of the pigs on his father’s farm died because the vet sold his father the wrong medicine.

That same year, all of his father’s crops died because of a drought.

Because of those two hardships, his father could not pay the mortgage and lost his farm.

Despite these catastrophes, his father did not spend time blaming the vet, the weather, or the banker for taking his farm.

Instead, he started thinking about all the things he had to do to get life going again.
