Lesson 29: The Habit Loop Step 4: The Reward

The Craving Step compels you to do its bidding because it craves the feeling of the dopamine reward.

In fact, dopamine will make you want to repeat every 4-step Habit Loop, even the bad ones, until you replace them with better habits.

Here’s how the 4-Step Habit Loop functions: when you encounter candy (the cue), you will start craving candy. Once the craving kicks in, you’ll find yourself eating the candy (the response), and after consuming it, the dopamine released in your brain will induce a sense of pleasure, making you want to eat more candy.

It’s crucial to grasp and keep in mind that your 4-Step Habit Loop is constantly running and can be initiated in a split second by any sensory input, whether it’s something you see, taste, touch, smell, or feel.
