Lesson 23: James Clear’s 4-step Habit Loop

Recently, a young man named James Clear introduced an additional step to Duhigg’s 4-Step Habit Loop, known as the Craving Step.

The word “craving” means to desire something intensely, and the Craving Step is exceptionally potent. It poses a significant challenge, especially for young people, as cravings hold immense power.

The power of the Craving Step is so overwhelmingly strong that it would be unwise to underestimate its addictive potential.

Furthermore, the Craving Step exerts dominance over the other three steps within the habit loop.

Individuals who fail to recognize and respect its influence often find themselves addicted to detrimental habits such as smoking, drugs, idleness, or any other harmful behaviors they engage in.
